Alumni & Author Addresses Colloquium

Author and NMU alumna Kathleen M. Heideman presented a multimedia discussion on her work as a writer entitled "Tracking Curiosity: from Lake Superior to Antarctica," which drew upon diverse themes of wilderness, environmental remediation, scientific inquiry, visual arts and emerging technologies on March 13. Apr. 16-May 2: Art & Design Department Presents: The Senior Art Exhibition. An Exhibition of diverse media by graduating seniors from NMU's School of Art and Design At the end of every semester, a senior exhibit is held that showcases the skills that students have learned throughout their time at NMU. A closing reception will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 2. A best of show award, which will be chosen by the faculty, will be presented to one of the graduating seniors. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The DeVos Art Museum.

May 1: The Forest Roberts Theatre Announces: Senior Performances by Courtney Bostick, Mike Gerdwagen, Cara Manor, and John Pann. Design-technical portfolios in the FRT Lobby by William Digneit and Rebekah Heldt. 1:00 p.m. Theatre Awards and Announcement of the 2008-2009 Brave New World theatre season. 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the FRT Lobby. Free of cost.

May 4: The Department of Music Presents: Gitche Gumee Guys, Spring Concert. 3:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Recital Hall.

May 4 - 17: The DeVos Art Museum Presents: The Children's Art Show.
At the DeVos Art Museum. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tawni Ferrarini (Economics) has been named Sam M. Cohodas Scholar for economic development in the Upper Peninsula. She will work with the campus community and regional organizations to research economic activity for others to use to develop plans for enhancing the U.P. economy. "My professional passion and my personal love for the area made me want to pursue this assignment," said Ferrarini, whose teaching load will be reduced so that she can focus on her new role. "There is so much potential for growth here. My number one job this semester will be to listen to organizations such as Michigan Works, the U.P. Economic Development Authority, Operation Action U.P. and others interested in economic vitality across the region." Ferrarini joined the NMU faculty in 1998 and has served as the director of its Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship since 2000. She was selected for the scholar assignment through an application process for a term tentatively scheduled to extend through June 2010.
