Tawni Ferrarini is the director of the Northern Michigan University Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship.
Ferrarini, an associate professor of economics at NMU, added the center leadership to her duties in December 2003 when the university decided to revive the center after its five-year inactivity.
Ferrarini holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Southern Illinois, a master’s and doctorate in economics from Washington University. She came to NMU in 1998. In 2004-05 and 2005-06, she was selected by her NMU peers to chair of the NMU Academic Senate.
With the NMU-CEEE her charges include developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating programs. These programs range from graduate credit courses on how to integrate economics across the K-12 curriculum to professional development offerings on how to meet Michigan Standards and Benchmarks through the Stock Market Game and Economics and Entrepreneurship to in-service workshops on Virtual Economics.
Throughout the academic year, Dr. Ferrarini meets with the NMU-CEEE Advisory Board to report on program progress, seek advice on educators’ needs and get ideas on how to improve the center. Finally, she recruits and coordinates the efforts of Educator Associates.
