Teachers and administrators can play a key role in advancing economics and entrepreneurship learning into the curriculum of schools across the Upper Peninsula by serving as an educator associate who trains and works with other teachers.  EA Partners

open book The NMU-CEEE facilitated the publication of No Social Studies Left Behind. The book was written by Iris Katers, a teacher at Marquette’s Graveraet Intermediate School, and printed at NMU. Two Northern students, Kim Wheeler and ReAnna Ruzzicone, assisted with writing and editing the book.

Special Piggy Banks

The Center assisted retired school teachers Iris Katers, Jean Hetrick, Cheryl Anderegg and Esther Macalady in writing an article for the Marquette Mining Journal on how grandparents can teach their grandchildren about financial management through a wide variety of ways. One of the suggestions was to create a homemade baking system with plastic containers or piggy banks labeled save, donate, spend and invest. The article states, “The lifelong process of responsible personal finance can begin at a very early age, and grandparents can give this lasting gift.”

Show Me the Money

DJ VanasThe center helped sponsor the "Show Me the Money" Workshop in November with special guest D.J. Eagle Bear Vanas. This interactive event for teachers and students in grades 6-12 featured hands-on activities such as Monopoly on the Rez, a unique game that teaches economics, entrepreneurship and money management to Native people and others from a Native cultural perspective, as well as “The Tiny Warrior Chooses” and “The Tiny Warrior’s Path to Financial Success”. Watch for details for upcoming workshops.
