Boy Scouts of America is looking for a volunteer to do an internship in marketing/communications.  This would involve enhancing publications in house, creating and publishing an electronic newsletter, and maintaining an e-mail database.  Times would be flexible depending on the requirements of the internship.  The hours for the service center are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  However, some work could be done offsite.  The service center is in Harvey at 2201 US 41 South.  If you are interested in this internship, please contact Dewey Jones at the Hiawathaland Council, Boy Scouts of America, 2210 US 41 South, Marquette, or by calling 906-249-1461.

Students will assist Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts' leaders with age appropriate group activities to learn life skills and values.  This would range from craft projects and games for the elementary school aged Cub Scouts to merit badge counseling in career fields for older Boy Scouts.  There is a leader training in October and monthly in-service type meetings called round tables.  There are four Cub Scout packs and five Boy Scout troops in Marquette that have weekly evening meetings and monthly weekend activities.  The packs and troops meet at various locations in the city of Marquette including St. Michael's Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, and Sandy Knoll Elementary School.  For more information, contact either Dewey Jones or Joe Erickson at the Hiawathaland Council, Boy Scouts of America, 2210 US 41 South, Marquette or by calling 906-249-1461.

The Care Clinic is looking for receptionists and facilitators for our teen parenting program on Monday's, Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Friday's from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The receptionists will greet clients and take phone calls.  The facilitators will use prepared lessons which teach skills to pregnant and parenting teens.  If you are interested or have more questions, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Dana at the Care Clinic at 906-228-2273.  The Care Clinic is located at 1213 N. Third St., in Marquette and offers all of their services free of charge.

Child and Family Services of the U.P. is looking for a creative student who would be available to update our web page.  Our current page can be found under Child and Family Services of the Upper Peninsula.  We will provide all necessary background information to the student.  We are a 501C-3 private organization.  Our programs include: adoptions, foster care, before- and after-school programs, and counseling to name a few.  This would be an interesting project for a student interested in human services.  For more information, please contact Al Hendra at 906-228-4050.

The Marquette Arts and Culture Center will be looking for volunteers to help with the production of Beauty and the Beast, a youth theatre production, from September through January.  They need assistance with all technical areas of production including sets, costumes, props, lighting, etc., and also with assistance in loading in Friday, January 15 and loading out on January 23-25.  Youth supervision.

Other areas for volunteers include promotions, volunteer coordinator position, fundraising, program designer, poster design, etc.  There are many different areas to work on scheduled times or on your own time.

The U.P. field deputy for the Department of Natural Resources, Stacy Welling, is looking to add to the membership of the Citizen's Advisory Council for the Western Upper Peninsula.  This group meets bi-monthly to discuss a lot of DNR-related issues.  More information about the Citizen's Advisory Council can be found on the DNR website.  If you are interested or need more information, please contact Stacy at 906-228-6561.

Are you interested in learning about the Waldorf style instruction through shadowing an expert teacher and by taking charge of the class for two months while the expert teacher is away?  If so, then we have a great opportunity for you.  The school runs through May 2010 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in downtown Marquette.  There will be approximately 10, 4 to 7 year olds.  For more information or to apply, contact Jon Barch at 319-541-5318.  To learn more information about Waldorf education, you can check out this site.
