UN 250 Service Projects

A new component to the UN: 250 course, added last year, is the development of a class service project. Both classes are required to come up with proposals for a service project and they vote on which project they would like to embark on.

Paper Cranes for Cancer Research

This year, one of the Teal Block classes (Wednesday afternoon) decided to help Marquette General Hospital reach their goal of raising six million dollars for the Varian Trilogy linear accelerator, a cancer treatment machine. The class decided to fold and create 1,000 paper cranes which was based off of the book "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" by Eleanor Coerr. The Teal Block is asking for a minimum $1 donation for each crane. "Each crane that is sold will be hung from the ceiling in MGH's memory walkway," said Lizzy Davis, Teal Block.

"Invisible Children"

The Tuesday night class also decided on a very different but helpful project. The class held a free screening of the film "Invisible Children" on Wednesday, November 18. The film is to help raise awareness of the ongoing wars in the African nation of Uganda. The Tuesday class is also collecting books for the cause.
