TV-6 Canathon! |
|---|
|
We are once again partnering with TV6 for their annual Canathon. Their collection efforts span across 10 Upper Peninsula counties, and all food collected in a community stays in that community. Last year they raised approximately 111,000 pounds of food, with about 2,040 pounds raised on campus. The NMU Volunteer Center wants you to help us collect even more food this year! Look for the purple collection boxes throughout campus, starting November 9 through December 3. Help feed a hungry neighbor! |

The NMU Volunteer Center and Casa Calabria would like to congratulate Volunteer of the Month Meghan Connell! She is a senior, majoring in Psychology-Graduate Preparation. Meghan keeps very busy, giving her time and energy to many different projects. Recently she coordinated the first ever Lemon Run with her campus organization, Alex's Lemonade Stand. Her efforts brought over 180 participants, raising over $2,300 for childhood cancer research. Meghan also helps as a camp counselor at One Step at a Time, a camp for children with cancer. She helps with Special Olympics camps and Winter Games, is on the Relay for Life Committee, and is a member of both the Student Leader Fellowship Program and Student Psychological Association. Her service for others is inspirational, and we would like to congratulate Meghan by awarding her with the NMU Volunteer Center Volunteer of the Month for October.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Know an outstanding volunteer?! Nominate them for our November Volunteer of the Month! Nominations are due to us, by phone or email, by Friday, November 20. Tell us some great things they have done for our community, and they could get recognized in the NorthWind and earn a gift certificate to the Casa Calabria! |
This year's Make a Difference Day: So Easy a Caveman Can Do It was a great success! Over 1,100 volunteers completed about 167 projects throughout Marquette County. Those are outstanding numbers, and we couldn't have done it without our amazing volunteers. So a huge thank you to all who helped...you truly made a difference!
