Student Organization: Alpine Ski Team

Description The NMU ALPINE SKI TEAM is for people who love to ski and want to race competitively. We practice regularly, travel to races in different parts of the Midwest , and have a blast doing it! Our team is part of the United States Collegiate Snowsport Association (USCSA), which is an organization for college ski racing regions across the country. Our region, the Midwest Collegiate Ski Conference, has four divisions (Ohio , Chicago, Lake Superior and Michigan ). We are members of the Lake Superior Division since it consistently has the toughest competition. The teams in each division compete against each other throughout the season. The top 5-6 teams from each division qualify for the regional race, held here at Marquette Mountain each year. The top three teams at the regional race are sent to nationals, where they get a chance to ski against racers from all over the country! The past four years in a row our team has had representatives ski in the national competition! Even though we are just a club sport, we are very dedicated to it. We practice three times a week, have a coach (who is also our advisor) and are very competitive. Team work and participation are essential for the success of our team. Being a part of the ski team is a great way to get involved with the school and meet a variety of different people with one common interest: we love skiing! We spend plenty of time together, even when the snow isn’t falling, doing fundraising for the team or having team barbeques. For more information, please contact Bobby at rmantz@nmu.edu.
