A National Event Make a Difference Day Volunteers

  • Created in 1990 by USAWeekend, Make a Difference Day is a national event celebrating neighbors helping neighbors. 
  • In 2005, over 3 million volunteers participated, completing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns across America. 


Marquette County Make A Difference Day

  • Northern Michigan University’s Volunteer Center is exclusively responsible for planning Make a Difference Day for Marquette County.
  • An average of 700 volunteers rake leaves or perform other household chores for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities in the local communities of Marquette, Negaunee, Ishpeming, Harvey and Gwinn. 


2007 Results NMU Pre-Vet Volunteers

  • This year, the Marquette County Make a Difference Day: Pitching in for the Home Team once again had an overwhelming impact on the Marquette community. 
  • Over 124 service projects were completed across Marquette County.
  • 100 student and community organizations raked yards, washed windows, and prepared homes in Marquette county for the winter .  990 students and community members registered for Make A Difference Day.                                               
  • Sponsors included TCF bank, the  Volunteer Coordinators of Marquette County, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44.
