On Saturday, November 15, 2008, the Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center will host 13 teams from across the Upper Peninsula will compete in the regional First LEGO League Robotics Tournament. Teams will have four opportunities during at the robot performance table to complete as many missions as possible in 2 ½ minutes with the robot they’ve built and programmed. Their best score of the four runs will be used. In addition, teams will be judged on teamwork, robot design which includes programming and project presentation which includes research quality, innovative solution and creative presentation. Teams may earn awards for Robot Design, Robot Performance, Project Presentation, Teamwork, and Team Spirit. The top cumulative scored teams will receive invitations to compete at the First LEGO League State Competition in Flint on Saturday, December 13, 2008.

Nineteen Upper Peninsula teams met at NMU for the FIRST LEGO® League (FLL) Robotics Tournament on Nov. 10, showcasing their solutions to the demand for energy resources in the 2007 Power Puzzle Challenge.
All teams competed on four aspects of the challenge: 1) the performance of their robots, 2) their understanding of the programs they’ve created for the robots, 3) their explanation of a project they’ve completed related to the challenge, and 4) their teamwork as they perform on-the-spot problem solving.
Teams advancing to Michigan Finals:
The 7 highest scoring teams advance to the Michigan FLL Tournament in Flint on Dec. 15.
