Real Life Experience -- Real Life Benefits
Internships are an excellent way to enhance your in-class learning with hands-on, experiential learning with a company or organization that relates directly to your career goals.
While NMU Career Services does not award academic credit for internships earned (you need to work with your academic department in order to earn credit towards your degree), the center does post internship opportunities with companies, government agencies and non-profit organizations. To begin your search for an internship, click on one of the links below. Once you find an internship in which you're interested, contact your academic department to explore the possibility of earning academic credit.
If you have any questions regarding the internship-related services provided by Career Services, contact Steven LaFond, Assistant Director.

You will learn what challenges the community faces and see how your work furthers their goals. You will also create valuable connections with the people that you work with each day. You will work at a CCS Partner Program, a locally-designed and driven initiative. Our in-country staff forms partnerships with these organizations, working together to help you contribute to the work of the organization. These Partner Programs may be orphanages, childcare centers, schools, health clinics, hospitals, homes for the elderly, centers for people with disabilities or other community organizations. Cultural & Learning Activities We've discovered that when you're given the opportunity to learn about the local culture and customs, and understand community development, your volunteer experience is truly complete. To gain this inside perspective, we provide Cultural & Learning Activities. You'll receive a detailed orientation, feedback sessions, language training, field trips, guest speakers and more. You'll experience all the community has to offer, within and beyond the context of your volunteer experience. Free Time We believe that free time significantly enhances your volunteer experience by giving you a chance to reflect outside of your daily service and activities. That's why free time is available some afternoons and most evenings. Weekends are always free for you to visit other parts of the country, or to simply stay in town and get to know the community and your new neighbors. The CCS Home-Base After a day of volunteering or a weekend of travel, it's important to know that you have a safe and comfortable place to return to. That's why we provide a Home-Base for our volunteers. The CCS Home-Base is your home away from home. Here, you'll connect with other volunteers and CCS staff, reflect on your experiences, enjoy meals, read and relax. You won't waste time on logistics because all of your daily needs are taken care of, including lodging, meals, and transportation. Also, by providing a Home-Base we are not burdening the local community with the needs of our volunteers.
