Services Provided

Career Services provides a variety of services and programs aimed at helping students and alumni with all facets of their career development.  The services and programs provided include, but are not limited to:

One-on-One Career Advisement – Each year, the staff in Career Services meet with hundreds of students and alumni in one-on-one situations to discuss their career needs.  Assistance and advice is offered regarding resume development, career options, interview preparation, the importance of doing an internship, and much, much more.

On- and Off-Campus Job Listings – Part-time positions for students, along with on-campus applications, are accessible in the Career Services office and on the web site.

Internship and Co-op Postings and Information – Opportunities and career counseling are available for students.

Off-Campus Work Study Program - There are a few off-campus, non-profit agencies that participate in the work study program.

Temporary Employment Program - The temporary labor lists are an effort to connect currently-enrolled students with potential on- and off-campus employers.

Summer Job Listings – Postings for hundreds of summer jobs, in a variety of fields and locations around the country, are available in the Career Services office or online.

Job Vacancy Bulletins – Postings in teaching, business and industry, school administration/higher education, and health-related occupations are easily accessible on-line.

On-Campus Interviews – Employers visit campus throughout the year to interview students for a variety of full-time positions and internships.  A list of organizations is available online.

Staying Connected – Staff in Career Services work closely with staff in the Academic and Career Advisement Center, Orientation, and Counseling and Consultation Services in order to assist students with important career decisions.

Job-Search Workshops – Throughout the academic year, staff in Career Services host workshops for classes, student organizations and residence hall groups.  Topics include resume writing, interviewing skills, business etiquette and professional presence, internships and summer employment.

Graduate Survey – Career Services' staff collect and compile statistics on recent NMU graduates.

JOBOPPS listserv – Sign-up to receive e-mail notification of jobs available within the Upper Peninsula, workshops, on-campus interview opportunities, job fairs and other career-related events.

Job Fairs – Each year, Career Services hosts a number of events that bring employers to campus to interview candidates for full-time jobs, summer employment and internships.

On-line Resume System - Students and alumni can post their resume for employers to view.
