Looking for things to do during your trip to Marquette? Here are some activities to choose from:
Snow Shoe Hike
Location: Noquaemenon Trail Network (NTN) Forestville Trail Head, Forestville Rd., follow the signs to the trailhead.
Time: Friday, Saturday, or Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Price: free
For a memorable adventure, try a snowshoe hike and find out what makes Marquette someplace special. All day Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the NTN will have snowshoes available to check out for free on a first come/first serve basis. There are also cross country skis (both classic and skate) to rent for a small fee. The NTN grooms over 75 kilometers of ski trails in Marquette and Alger counties, and the Forestville trails will afford you some of the best natural scenery in our area.
Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival
Location: NMU's campus
Time: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, times vary

The inaugural Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival will take place from March 14-16, 2008 at Northern Michigan University. The festival is presented by the Beaumier Heritage Center, an on-campus museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and culture of the Upper Peninsula's people. The mission of the Upper Peninsula Folklife Festival is to present the traditional arts and crafts of its diverse population through a four day event combining performances, craft demonstrations, workshops, dancing, and a regional cuisine buffet. A detailed schedule of the Folklife Festival events will be provided in your registration packet.
Marquette Mountain Spring Carnival
Location: Marquette Mountain (10 minutes from campus), 4501 M-533, 1-800-944-SNOW
Time: Friday, Saturday and Sunday - March 14-16, 2008

Students will receive a $10 coupon during Wildcat Weekend
Ski and snowboard fun for the whole family. Friday is Speed day with fun races and Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. starts the balloon bust and Frisbee toss. Stay for more fun on Sunday – FUN DAY. Sunday is filled with all sorts of fun games, silly slalom, fire hose race, mug race, Frisbee GS, slush cup, and the weekend wraps up with a free pig roast and huge raffle. Marquette Rangers Hockey vs. Alpena Ice Diggers
Location: Lakeview Arena, right next to NMU’s Berry Events Center and the YMCA
Time: Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. puck drop both nights
Price: General Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students
Come watch the Marquette Rangers hockey team take on Alpena. The Rangers play in the NAHL North Division, and their division opponents include the Traverse City North Stars, the Alpena Ice Diggers, the U.S. National Development Team Program, the St. Louis Bandits, and the Mahoning Valley Phantoms (Youngstown, Ohio). NMU’s Theatre Department Cabaret
Cabaret is the NMU Theatre Department’s annual fundraiser for theatre students, put on by theatre students. An elegant dinner is served followed by exciting musical entertainment, usually featuring the songs of such composers as George Gershwin and Jerry Herman. An auction of Broadway memorabilia, along with raffle prizes and a silent auction are mixed throughout the night. The money raised is used to help support the graduate internship program, along with providing students with Field Studies Scholarships and financial support to state, regional and national auditions. 16th Annual "Learning to Walk Together" Traditional Pow Wow
Location: Vandament Arena, located in the Physical Education and Instruction Facility
Time: Saturday and Sunday
Price: $5 weekend, $3 daily
Detailed Schedule: Center for Native American Studies
Sponsored by the NMU Native American Student Association. Dancers and singers from numerous tribes around the great lakes region will perform between 1-10 p.m. on Saturday and again from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. A traditional feast will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday in NMU’s Jacobetti Center, featuring a hand drum competition. Native artisans will also be featured from around the great lakes region and will be selling their original works.
NMU’s Physical Education and Instruction Facility and Indoor Rock Climbing Wall
Location: Physical Education and Instruction Facility, located between the Superior Dome and the Berry Events Center
Time: Saturday and Sunday all day
Price: Free
More commonly called the “PEIF” (rhymes with “beef”), this facility offers an indoor climbing wall, weight room, cardiovascular area, basketball courts, racquetball courts, swimming pool, and dance studios. You can use the facility for free anytime on Saturday, and the rock wall will be available to use from 5-8 p.m. Just check in at the information desk and let the worker know you’re visiting for Wildcat Weekend.
DeVos Art Museum “Seven Painters” Exhibition
Curated by NMU painting professor John Hubbard, this exhibition features seven painters from across the United States. Artists include Mary Aro, Andy Fletcher, Perin Mahler, Jim Nawara, Lucille Nawara, Charles W. Palmer, and Stanley Rosenthal.
