Rebecca ZembaRebecca (Becka) Zemba - Admissions Counselor, Northern Wisconsin

Hometown: Carney, Mich.

Professional/personal biography: I earned a bachelor of arts degree in public relations from NMU. After graduating from high school, I ventured off to Bay College as I began to narrow down exactly what I wanted to do after college. I then transferred to NMU where I was a resident adviser.  I loved Marquette so much that I decided to stay and became a resident director in the residence halls prior to becoming an admissions counselor. In my free time, I am working on my master’s in public administration with an emphasis in state and local government.  When I’m not busy with school work, I’m usually spending time with my family and friends, as well as traveling or playing guitar.

Most memorable college experience: It would be a toss up between two things. First, I will never forget the friends I have gained throughout my time in the residence halls. The friendships that I have forged due to our experiences together will last for the rest of my life. In addition to the relationships I gained, I also acquired a love for NMU hockey and a love for the Green and Gold!

Favorite Marquette activity: My favorite Marquette activity would be participating in all of the city’s festivities. From the UP 200 Sled Dog Race in February to all the festivals at the Lower Harbor such as Sea Food Fest which is my favorite. There is always something to do. In my spare time I love just going to the beach to enjoy beautiful Lake Superior.

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: My best advice to pass on to a future student would be to take advantage of as many things as you can that spark your interest. From becoming involved with organizations to engaging in lectures or completing internships, it’s amazing how dynamic your education becomes when you participate in activities that are not limited to the classroom.
