Bill LaffeyBill Laffey --Associate Director of Admissions,
Transfer students, California

Hometown: Longmeadow, Mass.

Professional/personal biography: I earned a bachelor of arts with a major in international relations and a minor in European studies from Beloit College in Beloit, Wis., in 1997. Although I started working at NMU in August 2002, I have worked in admissions since 1997. My special interests include international relations. I spent a summer during high school in Austria and visited the Berlin Wall the summer after it fell -- and kept a piece of the wall. I have a wonderful wife, Mary, who I met the second day of orientation at Beloit College and we have three wonderful children under the age of 8: Caitlin; Brian and Colin.

Most memorable college experience: Besides meeting my wife, listening to Gwendolyn Brooks read some of her poetry.

Favorite Marquette activity: Watching the sunset at Presque Isle Park. You can't find a more beautiful view.

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Get involved in events/organizations you know you will enjoy but, more importantly, get involved in events/organizations that aren't familiar to you.
