Jos? GarciaJosé L. Garcia -Assistant Director of Admissions, Western and Central Regions of the Upper Peninsula

Hometown: Holland, Mich.

Professional/personal biography: I earned a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education from Western Michigan University in 1997. I have been here at NMU since then, working as a resident director, assistant director of Orientation for two summers, and coordinator of apartment services before starting here in Admissions. I recently completed my master's degree in guidance counseling here at NMU.

Most memorable college experience: Getting to be a part of the Housing and Residence Life staff at WMU for 3 1/2 years. The experience, skills and friendships that came out of that opportunity were priceless!

Favorite Marquette activity: Biking around town and on the many miles of trails, kayaking in Lake Superior, spending time with friends, listening to Jim and Ray and going to NMU athletics events!

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone entering college: Take advantage of as much as you can! Make new friends and get involved; go to all of the free events on campus and in the community. And yes, it doesn't hurt to study some along the way, too!
