2009 PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS COMPETITION
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Sunday-Monday, Nov. 1-2 & 8-9, 2009
(ALL TIMES INDICATED ARE EASTERN STANDARD TIME)
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 & 8
2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Check-in
- Students will check-in and receive all materials pertaining to the program.
3:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m. Optional Campus Tours
- Tours will be conducted beginning at 3:00 p.m. with the last tour leaving at 4:30 p.m. Each tour will last approximately one hour. It is highly recommended that tour participants wear comfortable walking shoes.
6:00 p.m. Student and Parent Welcome Session
- General information concerning the scholarship competitions and the Honors Program will be provided. At the conclusion of the session students will be directed to their small group sessions.
6:30 p.m. Parent Informational Session
- A panel of NMU staff members will present information and answer questions concerning admission, academic advising, financial aid, housing and residence life, orientation, etc.
6:45 p.m. Student Small Group Sessions
8:30 p.m. Student and Parent Social (Optional)
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2 & 9
8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Breakfast & Get Your Questions Answered Session
- Students and parents can stop in anytime between 8:00-11:00 to gather information on a variety of NMU programs. Representatives will be available to answer questions and provide information on the following: Honors program, Freshman Fellowship program, Career Services, Student Leader Fellowship program, Health Promotions office, Study Abroad, First Year Experience program, Superior Edge, Multi-Cultural Education and Resource Center, Disability Student Services, and Admissions.
9:00 a.m. to Noon Faculty Interviews
- As part of the competition, each participant will be assigned to a half-hour interview with a member of the faculty. Students will receive their time and location information during Sunday’s Welcome Session.
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Make-up Campus Tour (Optional)
8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. View a Residence Hall Room (Optional)
10:00 a.m. to 11:00 Jacobetti Center Tour (Optional)
- Tour the home of the School of Technology and Applied Sciences. This facility provides state-of-the-art classrooms and lab space.
10:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. NMU Recreation & Sports Complex Tour (Optional)
- Tour the Superior Dome, Physical Education Instructional Facility (PEIF), and Berry Events Center. Home to Wildcat football, the Superior Dome is the world’s largest wooden dome. The Berry Events Center is home to Wildcat hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and the USOEC men’s and women’s short-track speed skating teams. The PEIF offers students a complete recreational facility.
