NMU operates under a "flat-rate" tuition plan, which means students can enroll in 12 to 18 credits per semester for one rate. Tuition and fees for full-time students includes the use of a ThinkPad notebook computer. Art and Design majors pay $150 more a semester and get a MacBook. To make the finances a bit easier, NMU offers three payment plans for tuition, fees and housing.

Freshmen pay a one-time athletic fee of $225 that gets you into all the games on campus - including hockey - your whole academic career.  Transfer students pay a one-time athletic fee of $112.50.

Families should also consider these additional expenses, which may vary by student:

  • Textbooks and supplies
  • Transportation and personal expenses
  • Recreational facilities pass (optional; $65 per semester/$120 per year)
  • Parking pass (optional; $130/year)
